Project Type

Community Centers

This project involves the complete renovation and adaptive reuse of a historic 19th-century structure in the heart of Havre de Grace, transforming it from a mercantile building into the Harmers Town Art Center, a vibrant hub for the local and regional arts community. The center aims to attract artists and craftsmen, fostering artistic growth within the city.

The facility will feature artist studios, maker spaces, a ceramics studio, woodshop, art classrooms, multipurpose rooms, meeting spaces, a gift shop, administrative offices, and a museum. The flexible multipurpose spaces, equipped with movable walls, will allow seamless transformation into a large art gallery for exhibitions and events.

The project also includes the development of Graw Alley, an adjacent outdoor living art park dedicated to preserving and teaching the rich history of Havre de Grace. Graw Alley will showcase historical murals, community gardens, figurative art installations, and will serve as a dynamic space for public engagement. The park will feature a small outdoor stage for performances, seating areas with ambient lighting, paved pathways, and designated spots for food and drink vendors during special events, creating a unique and interactive experience for visitors.

This comprehensive renovation not only preserves the site’s historical significance but also revitalizes it as a cultural landmark that will contribute to the city’s ongoing arts renaissance.
