Accomplishments

2023 Station Design Award – Firehouse

The North Harford County Station is a 7,600 SF new facility for Harford County Emergency Services located at Rocks Road Pylesville Road. The new state-of-the-art fire/EMS station integrates with the characteristics of the local residential area. The construction uses structurally insulated panels on the walls and roof to ease construction and provide a tight building envelope. Additionally, the building systems create a healthy environment for first responders by including decontamination areas, exhaust collection systems, and living/working spaces separated from hazardous environments. Moreover, the living spaces support stress relief with a gym, kitchen/dayroom, six private bunks, patio, soundproofing, and advanced alerting systems.

The design optimizes response efficiency with direct station pathways, specialized lighting to reduce night blindness, and proper door hardware. The radio room overlooks the apparatus, while a station-wide alerting system and site egress ensure optimal functionality. The two drive-through bays provide apparatus housing with proper utilities, vehicle exhaust management, and durable drainage. Site upgrades include rainwater management, efficient access for responders and the public, and a drafting system for local fire apparatus.
