Collins Aerospace
Rockwell Collins Building 4 is a mission critical facility located at 2551 Riva Road, Annapolis, Maryland. The project consisted of a 15,300 SF renovation to the second floor within the existing three-story building. MW Studios worked with Collins Aerospace to provide design and documentation for the renovated spaces including an operations center, show-room, conference rooms, communicating stair, break-rooms, training rooms, and bathrooms. The client’s main goals for the project included a facility upgrade and modernization of their 24-hour mission critical operations center, a construction process that does not interrupt their existing mission critical systems on the first floor, and the creation of an impressive and inviting show-space to demonstrate their products and services to clientele.
The design elements draw inspiration from the aeronautical industry. Concepts such as gravity and weightlessness are implemented throughout. The renovation also included upgrades to the exterior shell, including the construction of a new canopy and replacement of windows, and were designed to withstand hurricane impact forces. The remainder of the work involved the renovation of mechanical systems and addition of fire protection systems.
