PROJECT BRIEF

The historic Enoch Pratt Library in Hampden has a need to expand as well as a need to provide current ADA accessibility. Their library staff needs more work space, and the community needs a public meeting room that can be accessed after library hours. Because of the historic nature of the brick single story building, we elected to underpin the existing unfinished basement and reclaim that level for the administrative and community needs. The rear of the lower level houses the library operations, and the rest serves as a meeting room amenity with restrooms available to the community. The lower level is accessed by a new sunken entry that provides ADA access from the street as well as an internal stair and ADA lift. The historic upper level will remain much as it has appeared for 100 years, with the addition of a new circulation desk and lighting that will complement the preserved interiors.
